Maintaining Healthy Behaviour Initiative (MHBI) has developed through sustained community engagement in Lagos. Our work connects practical community access with prevention, health information, youth programming, linkage to services, safeguarding, partnerships, learning and evidence.
MHBI builds from relationships, local knowledge and community participation, while keeping programme reporting, historical records and research evidence clearly distinguished.
These are selected institutional indicators. Historical figures are deliberately labelled as historical and are not presented as January–July 2026 programme outputs.
Adults and other community members reached through community engagement, outreach and prevention activities.
Community members historically supported and linked to sustained antiretroviral therapy.
Historically distributed through community HIV-prevention, outreach and risk-reduction activities.
Young people reached through Optimizing Treatment Now programming.
MHBI's institutional journey predates its later engagement with CIHP. Historical milestones are separated from current programme reporting.
Early community HIV-prevention work. MHBI's journey includes involvement under SHiPS for MARPs and early prevention activities, alongside work with CRH around SRRS and Behaviour Maintenance.
Programme development. Continued community prevention and behaviour-change activities formed part of the developing institutional record.
Formal registration. MHBI was formally registered as an institution following its earlier community-based work.
Expanded partnerships. MHBI's engagement with CIHP began in 2020 as a later phase of institutional development, not the origin of MHBI.
MHBI's partnership approach is practical and community-facing: collaboration should improve access, strengthen prevention, support service delivery or generate useful learning.
MHBI collaborated with the Police Community Relations Committee in Mushin through a safety and security programme that included a community health services package.
MHBI's institutional journey includes early SHiPS and CRH engagement, followed by CIHP programme engagement from 2020, youth/OTZ programming and research-related community participation.
